By now you must have realized, I enjoy capturing the play of colors between the sun, the clouds and the sea. So this is one more of those golden orange with blue shot. But like every other shot, this scape tells its own unique story.
This was during a visit to Virginia Beach. One morning I beat the sun to the beach and sat there anticipating a splendid sunrise. It was a memorable experience sitting there on the beach, observing all the early morning activities that happened while the sun slowly crawled up. The assembly of birds chirping and flying around, occasional joggers and couples walking by, embracing the rising sun. However, this particular shot holds a special place in my heart, as it brings back nostalgic childhood memories. The father and son walking on the beach at 6am, the little boy looking at the waters and birds, the father watching on- is very symbolic to me.
As a child, growing up, it was a daily routine for me to wake up early in the morning and go out for a walk with my father. During these walks my dad talked about various topics, we discussed and I learnt a lot. Many of my mornings were also spent playing cricket, when I made my father bowl incessantly when I was in the mood to bat, or made him bat when I was in the mood to throw the ball. Even today when I make the trip back home, without fail, however jet-lagged or tired I am, I make it a point to accompany my dad on his morning walk from day one. Even today its the time when we talk about our lives, our goals and have maximum exchange of thoughts – all over a morning walk. I also remember the agony of our discussions cut short by time as I need to goto school and him to work!
I don’t think I have ever gotten a chance to go on walks with my dad on a beach- it would be perfect, amazing conversations on a background of a splendid sunrise. Recently when I was in Provincetown, I told him, that the next time he visits me, I will bring him there, and we could go on our long morning walks on the beach, and not even be time bound! His reply was, ” That would some of the best times of my life”. True, the best times of our lives- all over a something as simple as a morning walk.
