I wished, and it came true.

I remember very well, crossing over the bridge the very first time, it was in May 2009, while driving to Boston. I remember it so well because the beauty of what I saw, was etched in my mind. A beautiful summer morning, clear blue skies, sparkling water, hills on both sides of the river, look south and the sight of NYC skyline in the distance, all while driving over  a 3 mile long bridge- its hard not to feel mesmerized. I clearly remember saying, “I wish I lived here! I would love to re-live this experience again and again.”  Call it chance, but I ended up staying in Westchester county for 3 years during my residency. And the 100s of times that I have crossed this bridge, the majestic views while driving through the Tappan Zee, continue to enrapture me.

This particular scape was captured from a riverside bench in Tarrytown. It was my goto spot during residency, a place where I felt at peace, where I could unwind, and feel rejuvinated. The sound of water crashing on the rocks below, the distant vision of the bridge lit at night, giving an impression of a sparkling necklace across the river, faint outlines of mountains in the background and visions of the city skyscrapers in the far distance.

Now they are building ” the new Tappan Zee bridge” and things will not look the same. Well, I have also moved out from Westchester. May be sometime later in life, I will again stand at the very spot, see a double sparkling necklace across the river, and feel the same tranquility that I always felt. Till then I have this scape to cherish.
